a blast from the past

The boyfriend is working late, and I usually spend the time waiting for him to get home by reading, watching TV or on the computer.  Well more like a little bit of all three.

While on the computer, good ole facebook to be exact, I came across the tumblr of a girl from home that I honestly cannot think of the last time I saw or even spoke to.  Two things I noticed from her blog: she seems very happy with her life, which is always something great to know, and she has a great idea for her blog where she discusses life’s crazy changes and how much everything can change in just a year.  Her blog is Just A Year Ago and in nearly every post she mentions what she was doing or what was happening in her life a year, two years, or more years ago.  Great idea really and I want to incorporate it as well, especially since…

Just a year ago if you told me that I would be meeting the love of my life in less than 2 months in a local bar on a random Tuesday night in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia…I would have called you absolutely crazy!

For starters, I had never even heard of Adelaide until about a month before a year ago.

Just a year ago if you told me that I would be living in Adelaide indefinitely to be with said love of my life…I would have called the local mental hospital for your admittance.

Just a year ago I would be watching The Today Show in Atlanta, and at it’s normal time, instead of at 1 AM here in Adelaide.

Just a year ago I was going to my first football game as a Clemson alum, now I am hoping to just catch at least one game on the television here.

Just a year ago I was applying to law schools in the US, now I will be attending one here.

To be honest, the “just a year ago” topic comes up in a lot of my conversations because my life has changed significantly in less than a year.  Reflecting back on this year there are a few things I have learned:

• If I am scared of something, that means I should probably do it
• Skype and video chat are the greatest inventions
• Being broke really is “character building” to quote my parents
• Being 16,000 miles from home doesn’t really feel that far when you have great family and friends that keep in touch
• Finishing each day with a hug from someone I love helps to keep me smiling

I am not sure where I will be in life a year from now, and I don’t want to know.  It’s the twist and turns of life that keeps it exciting!
